Summer is a great time for movie franchises to release films. This summer, we’ll see the return of Mad Max, Garfield the cat, Bad Boys, and Riley from “Inside Out.”
Perhaps inspired by the cinema—or not—the Tennessee Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board is doing a sequel of sorts of its own.
Last year, the Board held oral arguments at the Bureau’s annual Educational Conference. It gave professionals outside the legal field (doctors, nurse case managers, adjusters, risk managers, etc.) an opportunity to see how the appellate process plays out—something they might never otherwise observe in their careers as workers’ compensation professionals. The feedback was very positive.
Inspired by that success, the Board has scheduled oral arguments for the upcoming Educational Conference in June, once again to take place at the Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro.
On June 13, live arguments will take place starting at 8:00 a.m. Central time in Ridley v. Mature Care of Standifer Place. The case involves a grant of additional medical benefits at the interlocutory phase, where physicians differed in their medical causation opinions. The docket is here.
Appeals Board arguments are typically “hot”—meaning the Board is fond of a lively, give-and-take discussion about the parties’ positions, rather than a recitation of prepared speeches. Continuing education credit is available.
